Manages and supports CRO centralized and distributed data processing equipment world wide. This includes overseeing the test, validation, and implementation of computer systems; management of information security; and management of the primary and secondary data processing centers. Provides support for local area networks and office automation for all CRO offices. Works with IT senior management to develop long range architectures and budgets. Participates in audits of processes affecting IT operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Directs all activities relating to the operation of centralized data processing equipment and end-user computers.


2. Manages server operation and availability in a 24x7 environment including nightly back-ups and disaster recovery for test, validation, and production environments.


3. Develops and maintains standards and procedures for computing and network security to ensure compliance with Federal regulations and generally accepted industry practices. Responsible for developing information security plans and procedures.


4. Directs all activities relating to the installation, test and operation of CRO equipment in the primary hosting center. Manages all vendors and contracts relating to data center operations.


5. Manages all activities relating to the installation, test and operation of CRO equipment in the disaster recovery site and any secondary hosting centers.


6. Provides input to the CRO Disaster Recovery (DR) Plan and initiates testing in accordance with the requirements of the DR Plan.


7. Plans for the implementation of new technology and works with senior IT management on the development of long term technical plans and architectures.


8. Reviews audit findings and develops standard operating procedures for information systems.


9. Selects and manages third party vendors and consultants to provide services and equipment supporting technology or processes.


10. Coordinates resources, project schedules, and communications for systems projects.



OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs other work-related duties as assigned. Minimal travel may be required (up to 25%). Will require 24x7 cell phone/pager accessibility.
Skills: Requires a BA/BS degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience plus a minimum of eight (8) years of progressive information systems/technology experience, with at least four (4) years in IT management, demonstrating extensive knowledge of the following: Data center operations with experience supporting, Unix/Linux, and Microsoft platforms, VMWare and virtual machine technology, local area/wireless networks, and requirements concerning 21CFR Part 11 compliance. Knowledge of IBM/HP blade technology, Cisco Routers, and Cisco VoIP phone networks is also desirable. Ability to handle multiple tasks to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment is essential. Process-oriented design, strong client service, leadership and project management skills are essential. Background in CRO, pharmaceutical, or health care industry preferred. Effective presentation, documentation, interpersonal, and leadership skills with a team-oriented approach are necessary. The ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment is essential.
